1/10How did it feel to be nominated for the CFDA's Womenswear Designer of the Year?
Not in a million years did I think I would be nominated in the same category as Marc Jacobs or Donna Karan. They're both icons I idolized growing up—it's because of them that I'm here today.
2/10What's the best advice you've ever gotten?
To listen to other people who have more experience.
3/10What is the most surprising thing that inspires your work?
Mistakes! You can't anticipate them, and I love the challenge of resolving something from the unexpected.
4/10What is most important in maintaining your success?
Never realizing my own success, as there is always something I can improve on.
5/10Of all the items you've created, do you have a favorite?
I tend to like the most basic pieces with the perfect fit and fabric, like a simple tank. When you have something that anyone—whether it be a girl, boy, teen, or senior— can wear, it's much more exciting.
6/10Is there a movie that makes you laugh the most?
is genius!
7/10Where is the last place you traveled to?
I just got back from a trip to Spain—it was my first time there. Barcelona and Ibiza are where it's at!
8/10If you could bring one food item to a deserted island, what would it be?
A Vietnamese sandwich called bánh mì.
9/10Do you have any phobias?
I don't care how small or big they are, insects freak me out.
10/10WHat do you like most about fall fashion?
I love layers! I seem to always start a collection by designing outerwear and jackets.
