With whimsical patches, elastic bands, and a little imagination, Band of Outsiders' Scott Sternberg turns a slouchy sweatshirt into a sporty-chic pencil skirt.
1/6step 1: Hot Pockets
Cut off half the length of each sleeve of the sweatshirt and push them inside the armholes to create pockets.
2/6What You'll Need
A navy sweatshirt (try American Apparel)
One red and one white band of elastic
Two iron-on patches
one oversize safety pin
needle, thread, and scissors
An iron
3/6step 2: Waist Watcher
Measure the two bands of elastic so that they fit around the waist of the skirt (formerly the neckline). Overlap and sew The two bands together to make The belt.
4/6The Results
Enjoy your new custom skirt!
5/6step 4: Pin Up
Finally, wrap the belt around the top of the skirt and secure it closed with a safety pin.
6/6step 3: Patch Work
Arrange the patches where you want them to sit, and iron them onto the sweatshirt until they stick.
