Holiday DIY: Basic Brogues Get Super Sweet Velvet Bows
1/18What You Need
-Simple brogues
-Velvet fabric
-Tailors chalk
-Scissors
-A grid ruler
-A needle and thread
-A pair of shoe clip backings
-A safety pin
2/18Fold the Velvet
Fold the first section in half lengthwise with the fuzzy side folded inward.
3/18Mark the Velvet
Measure and mark a strip of velvet two inches wide.
4/18Cut the Fabric into Strips
Mark a few two-inch sections, and cut along the lines.
5/18Sew the Velvet
Thread the needle and sew all the way along the open end of the folded strip, creating a flat tube.
6/18Tie a Knot in the Thread
Continue to the other end and tie a knot. If you run out of thread before the end, make a knot and start with a new piece of thread.
7/18Cut the Velvet
Cut a piece of sewn fabric about a foot long.
8/18Attach a Safety Pin
Attach a safety pin to one end of the sewn velvet tube.
9/18Turn the Velvet Inside Out
Push the safety pin into the end of the tube and all the way through to the other side, turning it inside out. Repeat with the rest of the velvet strips.
10/18Make a Loop
Fold one end to the center, creating a loop on one side.
11/18Cut Additional Fabric
Make two more pieces about as long as the loops, and a third that's just a few inches long.
12/18Make Another Loop
Fold the other side in to create a second loop, and cut any excess fabric.
13/18Sew the Bow
Attach the loops by sewing the ends in place.
14/18Attach the Fabric
Attach the two longer pieces to the center, and stitch them down.
15/18Sew the Small Piece
Wrap the smaller piece around the center and stitch it down.
16/18Attach the Shoe Clip
Sew a shoe clip onto the back of the bow.
17/18The Finished Brogues
18/18Clean up the Bow
Trim any excess fabric wrapped around the center. Then, repeat the process for a second bow, and clip the bows to the shoes.
