DIY a Bejeweled Friendship Bracelet
1/11What You Need
Embroidery floss, like DMC. Two or more colors is preferred; we will be using six colors.
Scissors
Tape (we love hot pink duct tape)
Pliers
Wire cutters
Embroidery needle (or needle with large eye)
Vintage bling (can be an old earring, pin, or button)
2/11Choose your thread
To begin, pick out your embroidery thread colors. We are using six colors but there are many friendship bracelet patterns out there that require between two to twelve colors, beginner to expert. (Check out this great friendship bracelet website with patterns and tutorials for inspiration.) Measure and cut 72 inches of each embroidery thread color you’ll be using. Hold the cut pieces together, fold them in half, and then make a slip knot at the fold. Tape your loop to a table to keep secure.
4/11Knot the ends of the bracelet
To end the bracelet, do a simple braid and slip knot at the end.
5/11Trim the bracelet
Trim the excess string below the knot.
6/11Finished friendship bracelet
7/11Choose your bracelet embellishment
We chose to use a vintage screw back rhinestone earring to use as our embellishment. Carefully take wire or metal cutters and cut off the earring back.
8/11Stitch on your jewelry
Stitch your embellishment on using embroidery thread.
9/11Make sure the jewelry is secure
To secure the rhinestone earring make sure to stitch around and through large openings.
10/11Cut the loose ends
Once your bling is secure, double knot your thread and cut.
