How to Make a Jewel-Embellished Shirt
1/8What You Need
-A plain collared shirt (We chose a sleeveless one!)
-Various jewel and crystal buttons
-Thread that's the same color as the shirt
-A needle
-Tailor's chalk
-Scissors
2/8Mark up Your Design
Use tailor chalk to mark how you'd like to arrange the embellishments on the collar and pocket. We decided to place the buttons in staggered rows.
3/8Insert the Needle
Thread the needle, and tie a knot a few inches from the end. At the first chalk mark, insert the needle from the underside of the collar to the front, and pull the needle through.
4/8Sew the First Button
Thread a button through the needle, and stitch back into the collar in the same spot. Repeat this stitch, going through the button a few more times, to secure it.
5/8Mark up Your Design
Thread the needle to the underside of the collar one last time, and tie the thread securely from the previously knotted end. Trim the extra length, and add a dab of fabric glue to strengthen the knot.
6/8Continue Sewing Buttons on the Collar
Repeat steps 2-4, sewing buttons in all the spots you marked with chalk until the collar is complete.
7/8Sew Buttons on the Pocket
Follow the same steps to sew the buttons on the pocket. And work carefully so you don't accidentally sew the pocket shut!
